The days are getting longer and brighter. The darkest darkness in the night is still dark but a hint of light breaks through with a little help from city lights. It is only a couple of weeks left until daylight saving time. I can’t wait. From then on, the light will start to really take over the darkness and bring us the bright summer nights in June-July. When even in the darkest of night you can still catch sight of the remaining ambient light of the setting sun, never leaving the horizon. Turning the black nights of winter into the blue nights of summer. The light summer nights are magical to me. . It is such a blessing after the pitch black darkness of winter from early afternoon until late morning. I wish it could be June-July all year around! But I have a feeling that the light would lose some of its magic […]

Good morning from my bed at the hotel in Borås. I am actually writing this today, the actual Tuesday. It is nice to be blogging on the day you will actually read it, and not the day before publishing. 🙂 Maybe I should look over my publishing schedule. I just woke up. And this view below is the first thing my eyes saw this morning. Hotel Grand in Borås is like my home away from home these days. Hotel nights for me are often a hit or miss thing when it comes to sleep. Tonight was a hit! I slept so well. Last time I was here I had a very worried sleep and woke up with a head ache. It is weird how it is either really bad sleep, or like tonight, a really good sleep. It’s never an ”ok” sleep. Going home today. So am looking forward to my own […]

Time for week 2 of Jen’s and my new photo project painting with light. A very playful theme. For this week I wanted to play with colours, but I don’t have any other light source than my torch. In order to be able to get different colours I used those transparent plastic files you have in an office for example to put papers in. I used a blue one, a red one and a green one. I cut a little piece out of each and held them in front of my torch. It worked. I wanted to try to create patterns and also to play with reflecting backlight. I am especially thrilled the backlight experiment worked so well – just as I imagined! I just wish I had had a nicer reflecting background for that than my closet door but oh well… it is the only possible place to do […]

Last week Jen and I started a new photo project – painting with light. My photos for this week will be up at 3 pm CET. But before I leave our previous project of trees behind I’d like to sum it up with my personal favourite photos from those 8 weeks. It was a fun theme to try and portray trees from different aspects. As you know, this blog is about my creative journey. It is not about perfection. It is about experimenting and learning and trying. But I think these photos I will present as my favourites out of the theme are the ones that were a level over experimentation. The better ones. What do you think? Follow the header links to see all of the photos in respective theme. A link to the other project weeks will be found at the end. Tree project 2 – texture I am […]
Monday. First day of the work week after a weekend that passed way too quickly. As they usually do. Why is it that there is a different time on days off than on workdays? And you wake up all bright and alert right before the alarm clock on your day off, and on a workday you wake up feeling you have only slept for thirty minutes. That is a mystery never to be solved. Waking up at 5:30, snoozing until 5:50. Then I walk out of bed and in a daze to the bathroom to have a zombie-like shower to make me more human. I brush my teeth with a little more alert and less swollen eyes looking at my tired reflection in the mirror. ”Oh dear, still not all human yet….” I look through my closet for something to wear, and ask myself the same thing every morning: ”I have nothing […]
My first sign of spring is here. Tomorrow is finally March. It is getting lighter fast now. You can see the change day by day. Now it’s less than four weeks left before daylight saving time. I am counting down. That’s when ”life” comes back to me for real after the dark winter. In March, even though we can still have several cold spells left, all through April really, you can at least start hoping for more lasting warmer spring weather in between these cold spells. Oh I can’t wait! What is your personal first sign of spring?

It’s time for a new theme, a new photo project, for Jen and I. Jen came up with the first one, trees, and she also came up with this second one – painting with light. It is a very creative theme that can be interpreted in many exciting ways. There is a ”discipline” of sorts within photography when it comes to painting with light where you use long exposures and create shapes or effects using a light source. There are some pretty cool stuff out there. Here is a tutorial on how to make foreground subjects appear. Really cool! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi74B241b6k] You can also use your lightsource as a ”brush” and make cool effects. Here is a tutorial of showing that. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIMw8bIuZNc] Plus of course you have your own imagination! This is a really cool theme – thanks Jen 🙂 My first experiments here playing around at home with a torch. […]
Dreading what? The dentist 🙁 Tomorrow morning at 7:30 (today when you read this) I have a dentist appointment. The annual check-up. But I know I will have to come back and fix an old filling that was about to ”give up” already last year but he decided to wait in order not to torture me until it is absolutely necessary. He knows I am not too happy with the pain. The fact that I know I will have to come back to fix this makes me dread the appointment more than usual. I don’t want to go. I have this problem that the anesthesia doesn’t work on me. Well, it works in that usual loss of sense of lips, tongue, cheeks and everything for hours afterwards. But it never works against the actual pain of fixing the tooth. That nerve pain. I hate it! Ever since a difficult root filling a long time ago I can’t […]
So here is a quick lunchtime update. 🙂 It is a beautiful day here in Stockholm today. The sun is shining and you can feel a hint of warmth from its rays. Finally. A tiny tiny sense of spring even though the shadows and winds are still cold. A colleague and I decided to go out for lunch at restaurant Syster & Bror here at KTH campus. I had pasta Bolognese for lunch, she had zucchini pasta. Lunch view After that we took a short walk around the campus on our way back to the office to enjoy the sunshine just a little bit longer. We passed a beautiful little tree that I had to capture with my mobile phone. Now I am getting ready to join my colleagues at the company fair here on campus. This photo is from earlier today when the fair had just opened. Can’t wait to meet the students!
